Christmas Hoedown! Weaving a Tapestry of Art, Story & Tradition
How do you turn folk tunes into an artistic program? And what the heck are shape-note hymns? Members of the Sugarloaf troupe reveal all as they discuss the creative process for Sorrell’s new Irish-Appalachian holiday program, Christmas on Sugarloaf Mountain.
Sugarloaf Mountain, Apollo's Fire's beloved early Appalachian show has been met with great acclaim during it's two national tours and Cleveland residency. A sequel program will be created and directed by Artistic Director, Jeannette Sorrell that will celebrate Christmas in the Appalachian mountains. Beginning in Ireland, the old-country and journeying to the mountains of Appalachia this show is sure to be nostalgic, heart-centered, uplifting and fun! Amanda will once again be featured as the soprano soloist alongside tenor, Ross Hauck and an amazing line-up of nationally renowned musicians. Ticket information.

In this new program created by Jeannette Sorrell, the beloved troupe from the Sugarloaf Mountain summer program joins a wider cast with chorus, children’s voices, and additional instruments to celebrate the Celtic roots of an Appalachian Christmas. From the mystical Gregorian chant of old Scotland to folk carols and shape-note hymns at a toe-tapping Christmas gathering in Appalachia… the people of the mountains welcome Christmas with LOVE, SINGING, DANCING and PRAYER.

Amanda combines her love of singing and gifts of improvisation and community building to offer these Family Concerts on behalf of Apollo's Fire, Artistic Director Jeannette Sorrell. The concerts will focus on the improvisatory styles that were prevalent during the baroque period with the opportunity to join in the fun from the audience. All ages are welcome. The March 3 Family Concert is at the Cleveland Library in Downton Cleveland. Stay tuned for more information on concert time!

Amanda will join Apollo's Fire for their Cleveland shows of Monteverdi's compelling opera L'Orfeo. She will sing two of of the soprano roles in this semi-staged opera production-Proserpina and La Messagiera. After the Cleveland concerts, the troupe will take the opera on a national tour, including stops on the West Coast. Stay tuned for more information on venues and tickets.
Amanda will offer this special Beyond Boundaries concert with two beloved musical companions, Dave Morgan, bass and Brian Kay, guitar, percussion and voice. This trio of musicians will perform the concluding concert of the Music at the Meeting House concert series season. The concert will be held at First Church In Oberlin, OH.
